Week 9 - Thing 23 - THE END :(

I am finally done yay :) but this I don't get to discover new thing anymore lolz (J/king). It was fun and I learned alot of new things and somethings I thought I already knew but in reality I discovered new thing about that subject.

My favorites Exercises were Mashups, youtube. I should say week 5 and week 9 were alot of fun. I think Wikis are something new I discovered that I will go back to all the time .

I would like thank Virtual Team and Sandra Stuart for putting all this togeather for us and Sandra did her best in reminding us of the dates. I wish we do more stuff like this in the future and this is one of the reason I really Enjoy working @ SJPL. :)

OH YEAH JOE AND HARRY FINISH ALREADY GUYS BOTH OF YOU GOT HEAD STARTED BEFORE ME AND NOW THAT I AM DONE I CAN TEASE YOU. :P

Week 9 - Thing 22 - ebooks

Ebooks, I have been hearing about them for couple of years now and how they are going to to take over the actual books one day but I personally think that day will never come because there is nothing like reading the actual book. But there are many things about e books I really like such as many users can download one book at one book at one time by downloading them which makes it things very easy when availability of book is limited. Another this it is a very good way to preserve old books because digital copies can easily be copied from one computer to another which makes one good copy of book un-damageable. Almost all of the popular books are available as books to download so everyone should play around with them. SJ Library also have many books which are downloadable from our website with limited use. I think its a great feature. I am curious to see the future of e books and will be following e book seane in next few years.

Week 9 - Thing 21 - Podcasting

I have been Podcasting ever since I got my ipod 2 years ago. I subscribed myself to a podcast which download latest videos to my ipod automatically when i connect it to my computer, so I connect it over night and in the morning its all done. I made an account with Bloglines but it king of seems complicated so I just left it alone. Other than that Podcasts are great anyone can create their own and then update it weekly or even everyday if its interesting people will subscribe.

Week 9 - Thing 20 - YouTUBE

YouTube is the revolutionary site of new web age. I remember back in 2004 when it started it was just bunch of videos on a website because people didn't have that much bandwidth at home in order to upload videos but now Broadband is cheap and in this my space and online age you tube has become essential part of internet. It has been so successful that companies like Google are following on its footsteps and creating there similar service. I have been uploading videos on Youtube for about two years now and it has became my primary way of sharing my collections with my friends free of cost which can viewed anywhere in the world over the internet. I missed super bowl this year now I got that from the internet but now it was commercial free but i wanted to watch super bowl adds. You tube came to rescue. Just search for anything you will find some related to that on you tube.

Week 8 - Thing 19 - LibraryThing

I visited the website created an account and added my top 5 to it. It was interesting to see what other people are reading. I ended up spending sometime exploring the website. Its an interesting site. This library 2.0 thing gets better and better.
I am not a big book reader but I have read my share of school books :)

Week 8 - Thing 18 - Online Productivity Tools

I have been using Google Docs & Spreadsheets ever since they came out with them. I have known about Zoho Writer but havent had chance to explore it till today. and it is real good tool to know about but I still prefer Google Docs & Spreadsheets over it since I use it in conjuction of my email. This is real cool we actually start using this at over branch recently because we upload our weekly schedule on it and then we share it online so that everyone can see there schedule online and dont have to copy it. Very Practical and useful.

Week 7 - Thing 17 - Learning 2.0 SandBox Wiki

I added myself to the favs and now i am on top lolz atleast till someone adds there's on top.
I also added my favorite movies, TV Shows, Animals and Books to the "Learning 2.0 SandBox wiki"

Week 7 - Thing 16 - wikis

The picture above says it all. I truly believe that wikis are one of the most important things we have learned in the this whole program. With a online communities which are very active it becomes real easy to find and correct mistakes if there are any.
Wikis are

• Easy to use
  • Web-based
  • Simple syntax (don't need to know HTML)
• Anyone can make changes -- no more waiting for the Webmaster to get around to your requested changes.
• Many free and open source options
• Flexible and extensible

Wikipedia which is one of my favorite website is an example of how powerful an online community can be. there is very few topics which you cant find on wikipedia and with millions of users online makes it very powerful.

Week 6 - Thing - A few Perspectives on Web 2.0. Future of Libraries

I just read couple of articals that put concept of library 2.0 in prospective and I personally agree with the whole Idea of it. Being part of one of the most advanced library system in the country gives us opportunity to be part of library 2.0. I think we are already doing many things as part of San Jose Way but there is much more to come and I am exited to be part of that. Some of the stuff might not be practical for us to use at this point but note that Library is a very dynamic place where we do experiment with things and if the experiments are successful we make them part of our motto and if not we move on to next thing. :)

Week 6 - Thing 14 - Technorati

Believe it or not it was hard for me to pronounce the darn thing at first site but now that I have had chance to play around with it a little more I like it alot. "Technorati" is a real cool website where you can tag other blogs with different titles which makes it easier for you to search blogs of your interest. Cool Huh! Another thing the website even has list of top blogs that people are interested in and you tend to click on one of them and start reading because it unignorable (if thats a real word lolz)

Week 6 - Thing 13 "del.icio.us"

I have hearing good things about del.icio.us for a while now but never got a chance to actually play around with it, so this was the perfect opportunity for me. It's a great tool to know about and finally I can carry all my favorites with me all over the place. In addition to this, the community is great you can explore other people's saved bookmarks and the possibilities are endless of you finding a new and interesting websites. I spend half hour looking at other people's favorites.

Week 5 - Play Week - Thing 12 "Rollyo"

I have used multiple search engine before but this the first time I saw something that lets you create your own custom search engine. Its pretty easy all you do is list all the websites you want Rollyo to search and it will create your own personal search engine. This tool is great for creating search engine for web forums because they are the hardest to search. I have played around with it and created my own search engine for music videos. so search and enjoy...

Week 5 - Thing 11 "Exploring Web 2.0"

I have been using YouTube.Com for a while now and it seems to be the next best to hit the web since google.com. Making an account with them is free and easy and after making account you can upload your personal videos. They do on the fly video conversion so when you are uploading there software converts it real fast so you can share the video as soon as you finish uploading. I have used it to upload punjabi videos which my friends can view all over the world. You can even create your own channel where you upload new stuff every week or so and people wait for it. Many mainstream artists are using it as a primary tool for promotion and it seems like it is going to be the primary tool for 2008 election.

Another Main thing I like about YouTube is you can take the code for the video and the embed that in your blog or myspace.

Week 4 - Thing 9 "Useful Blogs (Blog Searching)"

Since I have been using RSS feeds for a while now, I was familiar with the concept of RSS Blog Feeds but I didn't knew there so many useful sites like "Feedster" & "Topix.net". I played around with it for a while searching for all kinds of stuff. I also discovered that Britney Spears is the one of the top searched names on all of the sites which is really funny to me that people have time to gossip about such things. Overall it was nice to learn something new about the blogging & RSS world. :)

Week 4 - Thing 8 "RSS Feeds"

I have been using RSS feeds for about two years now. Ever since they integrated RSS in Firebox browser, they have been part of my everyday life. I use Gmail RSS to get my email on my desktop in real-time. Also C-net, CNN, BBC & MSNBC newsfeeds are very useful and are part of Windows Vista Desktop. I really think RSS will be used in future a lot more as more and more people are becoming familiar with them.

While there's no shortage of ready-made options for connecting your iPod to your car stereo, if you want a truly integrated look you''ve really got to get your hands dirty and rip into your vehicle's factory parts. If you do, you could end up with a ghastly mess, or you could have something that looks like like JPPadula's new-and-improved GMC Denali tape deck here. While it'll likely never play a Huey Lewis & the News cassette again, it will accept an iPod quite nicely, with a full-functioning ejection mechanism and its innards wired up to the vehicle's Kenwood deck to allow for control over song selection. Of course it does have the slight downside of needing to be completely retrofitted for each new iPod, but who says iPod mods always have to be practical?

Introduction was good, and it got me started on the blog thing. I am glad that Library 2.0 is allowing us to learn all this stuff and I think this helps us understand new technologies around as well as connect to the fellow Library Empoyees. :)

I found the presentation very Intersting. I think I personally relate to "Viewing Problems As Challenges" and "Using Technology for our Advancement". I think if we use this in our daily life it can really change our lives in better way. :)
